I LOVE to start or end small group lessons with fun sorts. I usually use this as an activator for small groups, regardless of the book/story being read. It’s also a great follow-up to small group lessons, i.e. seat work. It’s such an easy and fun way to have students stay engaged in their learning.
This is also a great opportunity for student discourse. When a student sorts a particular quote into a category they must explain their thinking. Students can then discuss their reasoning together.
I’ve also included an editable template that you can use to create your own set of questions/problems. I hope that you have a Magical time with your class!
