This is a foundation lesson teaching the 3 major Points of View. Students create a shutter fold and teachers can add costumes as an option where students act out characters.
Meet Mr. I Me We
Mrs. U Ewe
and Ima Nishent where she uses a cane when she is limited....(use a yard stick) and a wand when she is fully omniscient and has full power to read the thoughts and feelings of all the characters in the story.
Use this shutter fold throughout the year as a check for understanding. Students pull out their glasses from the correct point of view and teachers can quickly check by using this manipulative for constant review after reading literature.
I have run into students 7 years after being in my class who can recall all the points of view. They tell me they remember the crazy characters all the way to college. This is much better than a worksheet as students become characters and experts on the points of view. Great introduction to the points of view that will not be forgotten. Especially good for lower achieving students who have memory issues and fun for every level. Creating an experience where the students become part of the lesson makes learning fun.
These characters can be assigned to children who hold the title all year. Ima Nishent has a dual role, one where she uses a frail voice and cane and the other when she is all powerful.
