Included are some short fiction passages to help your students practice distinguishing point of view from the characters of a story by using evidence from the text and determining their own point of view with reasons (RL3.6). Understanding a character’s feelings based on his/her actions and words is an important skill of a good reader. The more students practice this, the better they will comprehend a story.
This is great practice for the Reading 3D TRC component because students must use evidence to support their answer. You can practice finding/underlining the evidence in the text and having students add these details to their answer. There are also Tier 2 words underlined in the text to help students practice determining the meaning of unknown words using context clues (RL3.4).
