We are asked to constantly assess our students and are evaluated based on the amount of growth they show. We cannot possibly know how much they've grown OR the areas in which they are weak (as it pertains to a standard) if we do not administer pre and post-tests when covering our standards.

Assessments from our text book rarely isolate one standard. Usually, students are tested over their reading comprehension as well as multiple standards. This can make it difficult and time consuming to determine a standard with which students are struggling. Therefore, I have created these Point of View Post-tests.

The questions in these two post-tests assess students solely over point of view. The questions are worded identical to questions that have been found on standardized assessments and unit tests in text books. Form A asks 5 questions over 1st person, 2nd person and 3rd person points of view. Form B asks 5 questions over 1st person, 2nd person, 3rd person limited, 3rd person omniscient, objective, and subjective points of view. The story excerpts used in Form A are all part of the same story, just written from different points of view. The same goes for the story excerpts used in Form B. This makes it an excellent tutorial aid once the post-test has been administered.

I have included a question analysis sheet at the end of each form. Filling out this form will help you determine the specific areas of point of view with which students are struggling.

IDEA!-Use only Form A with your 5th and 6th grade students. Combine Forms A and B to create a 10-question assessment to use with your 7th and 8th graders.

IDEA!-Administer my Point of View Pretests BEFORE you teach point of view. You can access them here: Point of View Pretests Forms A and B

IDEA!-Use my Point of View resources to teach students all about point of view.
