Tired of scouring the web for an appropriate PowerPoint resource to teach my students about literary point of view (pov or literary perspective), I decided to create my own. This PowerPoint was created for 6th grade Language Arts and introduces 1st person, 2nd person, and 3rd person (omniscient, objective, close) points of view. I wanted to be thorough without overwhelming and my intention was to use explanations that would make sense to 6th graders. I discuss the impact of each point of view on the reader, both advantages and disadvantages. I have also included example passages from real literary texts and emphasize the pronouns associated with each point of view. Finally, the PowerPoint ends with a few practice passages and two leveled activities. I teach both inclusion and AIG students, so these activities were intended to differentiate for these students. This PowerPoint is aligned with the North Carolina Common Core Standards for 6th grade Language Arts.
