Kids will enjoy these poke cards. Just include a set of “Poke One Task Cards” in a learning center for early finishers or utilize in a teacher led group. Often the group that is working with the teacher is the last to start. This fun and engaging activity can easily keep that group busy until the teacher arrives.
The learner looks at the picture then pokes the dot under their letter choice that corresponds with the sound. The student then flips the card over and self-checks to see if they are correct. The student can easily confirm if they are correct by observing if their object is poked through the correct hole that has a circle around it on the back of the card.
There are 168 4 ¼“ x 5 ½“ poke cards. To help with organization the cards are numbered and broken into color coded uppercase letter groups as listed below. A teacher working with a group of emergent learners to identify uppercase letter sounds may first use these poke cards to introduce one of the group of letters below. The cards initially only have two choices. Eventually, all the groups have three choices of a beginning letter sound to choose that corresponds with the picture. Vowels and the letter X are not included. The letter groups are as follows:
B, M, S (12 cards)
B, M, S, R (24 cards)
T, N, P (12 cards)
T, N, P, G (24 cards)
D, H, L (12 cards)
D, H, L, C (24 cards)
F, W, J (12 cards)
F, W, J, K (24 cards)
Y, V, Z, Q (24 cards)
This resource also has a label to attached to an envelope, plastic bag, pencil pouch or clasp bag for storage. I also have provide a cheat sheet for identification of the pictures and to label the different sets as needed. Another management tool included is all of the cards are numbered. Want to include a cross-curricular activity? How about math? Have the learners sequence the cards in number order.
Teacher just print, laminate, cut, punch holes and then with a permanent colored marker draw a circle around the correct answer choice. If the cards become worn or loss, you have the option to print more or as many sets as you desire.
