Pokémon GO has certainly been a huge hit among kids and adults alike! Why not utilize this high-interest topic and bring it into the learning environment?! I have created these creative writing activities and prompts based on the Pokémon GO virtual experience. Included in this packet you will find 5 different activities.
1. Create Your Own Pokémon Creature
•Students are given a smartphone screen to illustrate their own creative creature on. This 1-page worksheet includes fill-in-the-blank “STATS” for students to write about their creature.
2. Create Your Own GPS Map
•Similar to the first activity, this activity also includes a smartphone screen to illustrate a pretend GPS map. It also includes fill-in-the-blank “Travel Log STATS” for students to write about their virtual location while catching Pokémon.
3. Pokémon Daily Newspaper Activity
•This newspaper activity has students write about the Pokémon GO frenzy in a witty, pretend article. It is two pages long and it also includes a “Daily Poll” and illustration boxes. The second page could be optional, depending on the abilities and eagerness of your students to write :-).
4. Pokémon GO Comic Strip Templates
•This activity includes 3 different comic strip templates with speech bubbles, and 3 blank templates (no speech bubbles). Students are to illustrate and write their own comic strips based on anything Pokémon! Ideas might include: a battle between Pokémon creatures, an interaction between a creature and a trainer, a trainer trying to catch a Pokémon, etc. This is a GREAT activity to get your students to practice writing dialogue and a story line. Students can add pages to make their comic strip stories longer, or mix and match the templates.
5. Writing Prompts
•These are great to use as sentence or paragraph starters. There are 9 writing prompts (3 per page), and you can have students do as many or as few as you'd like. You can cut them into strips and have students mix and match which writing prompts they'd like to respond to, or leave them as full pages.
ALL of these activities would be a fun addition to your writing centers, to be used as homework, as an early finisher activity, a substitute teaching activity, or any way you see fit! Please enjoy!!
