What better way to get your students excited about phonics and phonemic awareness than with Pokemon?!
This packet includes "Pokemon cards" that support students in decoding multisyllabic words, specifically nonsense words. Each nonsense word (Pokémon name) in the pack is already segmented by syllables for the reader. This supports students with decoding by allowing them to focus on decoding the separate parts of each word and on blending them together. It also supports students by training them to become accustomed to seeing certain word chunks, thereby speeding the process of decoding.
The Pokémon Phonics activities give students practice with decoding multisyllabic nonsense words, detecting and segmenting sounds and syllables in words, blending word parts, identifying syllable types, marking syllable types, and orally manipulating phonemes.
Along with the cards and suggestions for their use, I provide a "syllable type" reference, a syllable counting mat, and gameboard.
This resource goes perfect with an Orton-Gillingham style phonics program.
