Students are asked to create numbers that represent the amount of Pokemon in the world using clues that reinforce place value. This activity requires that students recognize a digit's place and value in a number. My students are really into Pokemon cards so this activity was a hit!
I used this lesson at the beginning of my place value unit.
4.NBT.2 Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
