This is a great way to enforce classroom management using a poker chip system. Each student has his/her own set of five (5) or poker chips. They get this at the start of each week. (i.e., their count always goes back to original number) The number of chips can be altered based on the grade level as well as personal choice.
During the week, if they exhibit a behavior that is unacceptable, they lose a poker chip (usually give them a few warnings beforehand).
On Fridays, you can have a period of “Choice Time” when students can choose to read, draw, read, write, etc. with other students.
This is a great system for the upper grades because it helps enforce responsibility and awareness of behavior. Enjoy!
