This is an 8-week, on-line study programme on the Polar Regions. The suggested activities are dependent upon key content being taught in the classroom as part of the regular, day-to-day curriculum. The site was designed for use with the UK National Curriculum; however, the general themes, content and outcomes should be commensurate with most curricula in which English is the chosen language of delivery.
The on-line, ‘Polar Adventure’ offers students the opportunity to work within a small team, applying the knowledge and skills introduced in class. The course has been designed to motivate students by providing a coherent narrative within which students complete a series of learning activities and assessment tasks. Each week a specific ‘Polar’ theme is addressed. The themes taught in class should be consistent with those specified in the course outline.
The course aims to help children formulate a response to the enquiry question: “What effect does human activity have on the Polar Regions?”
