How to play
To be played in a group
Cards are placed upside down in a pile on the table. Children take turns turning over a card and reading the verb. They then need to give the past tense of the verb. If they are correct, they may keep their card. If incorrect, they must place their card at the bottom of the main pile on the table. Should they pick up a “Polar Bear Prowl” card, they must return all their cards to the bottom of the pile.
The winner can be decided by a set time or a certain number of cards.
An alternative to the basic game includes putting the word into a sentence before they may keep the card. The game can also be played using only one of the rules, a combination of them or all of them. Once the game is over, the children are able to write their words onto a worksheet giving the root word and its past tense.
