All about polar bears! This lesson plan includes:
- a 6-paragraph 387-word text about polar bears, their habitat in the Arctic and their feeding habits. The topic of extinction is briefly mentioned. With this passage is:
- a list of 14 vocabulary words from the text;
- a short list of Fast Facts and
- a worksheet with two activities (Correct the Statements and Complete the Sentences)
The second feature of the unit is an Internet research assignment about the Arctic – internet sites are provided (or the students may forge ahead without them) – ten statements must be verified as True or False.
The third feature of the product is a four-paragraph passage on Churchill, Manitoba “The Polar Bear Capital of the World” – the passage may be used as a listening activity or as a Jigsaw activity; worksheets and questions are provided as well as instructions for the teacher.
The fourth feature is a list of questions designed to elicit the students' opinions on information they learned from reading the first passage (“Polar Bears").
