The Polar Bears unit written by Danielle Tisdale is an integrated and inquiry based approach to learning. The unit includes an overview of the skills taught throughout this weeklong unit. There are lessons for math, science, shared reading, reader's workshop, phonics, and even morning messages! Writing has been integrated along all the content areas.
This unit contains an emergent reader about a polar bear. Along with the emergent reader are worksheets to help kids build and learning sight words and read simple sentences. The phonics section includes identifying rhyming words and a sight word game. Reader's workshop is all about compression, story elements, retelling, summarizing, and comparing/contrasting different versions of "The Three Bears". In math students will learn about time and money. Included are math journals for five days that continue with measurement, subtraction, and addition. The math lessons are to be taught hands-on; where students are directly linking their learning to the real world! The science section has three lessons that teach about magnets. There are 51 pages of learning fun included in this unit!
