Page 4: Use the large picture cards to sequence in a
pocket chart in whole group.
• Pages 5-6: Use the emergent reader in your small group to
find popcorn words (I, see, a, little, big), teach your students to use picture clues and sequence the pages to match the order of the
• Page 7: Use this page as an assessment to have the kids
sequence parts of the story from Polar Express. (There is one picture that doesn't belong, so the kids have to really think hard about each major event.)
• Page 8: Have the kids make text-to-self connections and think about what they would ask for if they could chose the 1st gift of Christmas.
• Page 9-10: Using a pocket chart, have the kids help sort the
pictures by how may syllables at word has.
~Have the kids cut out the bells along the lines and glue the bells in order on a sentence strip from 1-20. (Or laminate them and use them in whole group/small group activities!)
~Students will use the spinners to complete the graph page.
~Students will match the puzzle pieces to match the digital to analog time. (time to the hour)
