This is 25 slide PowerPoint with images of the polar landscape and habitat. It includes a map showing where the polar regions are located and images and descriptions and definitions of tundra, glaciers, icebergs, and arctic animals such as fox, polar bears, penguins, hares, and caribou. It shows images of these arctic animals in their natural camoflage. It also shows cold water ocean animals, such as whales, walruses, and seals. It discusses hibernation of bears and the inuit / eskimo creating igloos and fishing. It also shows the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) and vegetation in the tundra such as lichens. This is a great introduction to a unit on polar regions and habitats.
Create a large unit and bundle this with my desert and ocean habitats. There is also a follow up PowerPoint that goes with this unit where your students can learn how polar marine animals stay warm in such cold waters. Your class will learn about blubber and create a "Blubber Glove". So, be sure to bundle this with the blubber glove PowerPoint and lesson!
