Polar Part-Part-Whole Addition is a math lesson focusing on addition of sets on part-part-whole mats for composing numbers. It includes practice for finding missing sums and also missing addends. It is ideal for your kindergarten or first grade classroom! Using part-part-whole mats will give your children a visual representation of addition equations and allow them to better understand the relationship between the whole and its parts. This lesson includes examples for modeling, task cards for small cooperative groups, a related center activity, and an individual assessment too! This thematic math lesson will be a great addition to your polar, Arctic, and winter teaching units!
This lesson aligns with Common Core math standards: K.OA.1, 1.OA.8
