Are you looking for a low-maintenance, trinket-free, effective way to
create a positive classroom environment? Are you tired of moving
safety pins or flipping red, yellow, and green cards? Then the Police
Officer Behavior Program is perfect for you!
All teachers strive to create a positive, safe, learning environment where students are able to take risks and learn from their mistakes. With this, it is important for children to learn that they always have choices. A choice produces either a positive outcome or a negative outcome. From the choices we make in life, we have the opportunity from which to learn. In the future, we are less likely to make choices that produced negative outcomes in the past. An effective way to teach this concept to students is to tie this into personal behavior.
I have been teaching for twelve years and began implementing The Police Officer Behavior Program after my first year. It has proven to be a perfect mode of delivery to help my students understand that their choices always lead to one of the two outcomes and that the positive outcome is always the desired. It helps students to self-monitor and to regulate their behaviors through the use of instant nonverbal feedback to those students making positive choices and their surrounding peers. It also delivers messages about what my expectations are for their behavior at that particular moment. The reinforcement of these desired behaviors helps to create the atmosphere I desire in my room.
You can establish all of this in just a few days using this program, developed and refined over the span of 12 years. Other teachers have piloted the program and love the ease of implementation and the doing away with trinket/treasure chests. What they really love is the growth they see in their students behavior. Students enjoy this program just as much as teachers.
Included in this program are the lessons needed to roll out the program in the first week of school, reproducibles and helpful tips.
