2) A "Policies and Trade" Activity. It begins by asking your students to use two separate scenarios to explain how expansionary and contractionary fiscal policy effects a nation's current account. Students will graph the impact of each policy on the foreign exchange market and then indicate how the change they identified will impact Real GDP, income levels, export prices, the value of currency, and the current account balance. Then students will graph the impact of each policy on the loanable funds market and then indicate how the change they identified will impact loan demand, real interest rates, the purchase of domestic assets, capital flow, and the capital account balance. Next, students are asked to use two separate scenarios to explain how expansionary and contractionary monetary policy effects a nation's current account. Students will graph the impact of each policy on the foreign exchange market and then indicate how the change they identified will impact Real GDP, income levels, export prices, the value of currency, and the current account balance. Then students will graph the impact of each policy on the loanable funds market and then indicate how the change they identified will impact bank reserves, real interest rates, the purchase of domestic assets, capital flow, and the capital account balance. Next, students will be provided a set of 8 trade goals for an aggregate economy and will have to identify the correct combination of fiscal and monetary policies that should be used to achieve each goal. Lastly, the activity concludes with a short-answer free response question. This FRQ is written in a format similar to the CollegeBoard, and will ask students to critically think about what they've learned.

These questions require students to critically think about the impact fiscal policy has on economic indicators, as well as government revenue and expenditures.

This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.

3) A detailed answer key to the lesson activity to save you time and help guide student comprehension.
