There were many political movements and events taking place in the country that would have profound implications on the future of the United States. Most of these were set in motion between 1830 and 1860, just prior to the Civil War. Many of these revolved around slavery and issues related to it, others had to do with the ever expanding continent and how the land would be distributed and others had to do with political control and direction.
This is a power point presentation that covers the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1856 and the impact it had at the beginning of the Civil War.
