Grades 8-12: The video addresses the history of political parties in the US, beginning with Washington's era, and considering the Federalists, Democratic-Republicans, Whigs, Democrats, Republicans, and the role of third parties, such as the Populists. It also discusses the Era of Good Feelings and the re-alignment of parties after the elections of 1860, 1932, and 1968.
This eleven-question viewing guide will keep your students focused on the most important parts of the engaging Crash Course video. It's a ready-to-go homework assignment for your Civics or Government students, or, if you’re a one-to-one school, an ideal quiet time activity, which will keep students engaged while you conference with others.
Simply make the link available to students and distribute the viewing guide. There are two options: one with time stamps and one without--a great way to differentiate. You can also access this file digitally, via Google Drive, which will allow you to edit it.
