The government and politics can be a relatively dry topic to teach and learn. However, when students get involved in their learning, the topic comes alive! The projects in this packet allow students to:
* Create monologues
* Research important people in American history
* Apply Basic Addition with Regrouping Skills
* Review fundamental American Geography skills
* Investigate the Media and Headlines
* Take a Stand on important issues
The activities included in this packet can be used as in-class projects or the entire packet can be used as an at-home project contract. Project contracts are a great way to differentiate the curriculum and allow students some flexibility and some choice over their workload and their learning. Students will have the choice to apply Math, Geography, Writing, Reading, Public Speaking, and Music skills all the while learning about the United States election in this integrated themed unit contract!
This contract would be appropriate for 4th through 6th graders. These projects could also be adapted to be in class centers or cooperative group activities.
