"Mrs.Bell, how do you spell beautiful?" I probably heard that sentence once each day from one of my darling little students last year. I created this product in response to all those little kiddos who ask how to spell the same word over and over during independent writing! The words they ask are often not “sound-out” words and therefore harder to be independent with. So, this little dictionary is the answer. I have provided one page for drawing, and one page for writing. The drawing page can be used for those words that work the best with a drawing, and then the word can be written below. I find that allowing the students to draw a picture or write it themselves really helps solidify it in their minds. The writing page is like a standard dictionary page.
I do mini-lessons and have all students write in some words, and other times it depends on the student’s interest and need. Either way, these little dictionaries are flexible to be used in any way that works for you. One thing is for sure, these little dictionaries will be used EVERY DAY in your classroom :)
