Wow...what a great book with so many possibilities in the math classroom! The Patchwork Quilt by Valerie Flournoy can be used in so many ways at many grade levels...tessellations, identifying polygons, comparing areas of polygons, find total area using the area of a given polygon, and so much more. The activity I chose was identifying specific polygons within a given patchwork quilt. A great extension activity could include origami and paper folding and creating your own patchwork quilt.
This activity is also part of a bundle pack at a discounted price. A great cross-curricular activity!
