This math learning pack can be used as a music listening center with accompanying worksheets or it can be used for direct whole class instruction.
Polygons Music Listening Center Set Up
1) Set up the Music Listening Center sign and task card at your center area.
2) Put the lyrics of the song at each seat.
3) Make sure the Polygons song is pre-set in your listening device at the center.
4) Place the Polygon Chart and the set of 5 worksheets on a clipboard at each seat. (You can have students do all 5 worksheets in one sitting or you can put out 1 worksheet a day and have a week's worth of work for your center.)
Whole Group instruction
First, play the song for the entire class to establish some prior knowledge. The song will teach triangle, rectangle, pentagon, hexagon, septagon, and octagon in an interactive and fun way.
Then, give a direct instruction geometry lesson on polygons. When you are done, use the included worksheets so that children can apply concepts learned.
There is a Polygon Chart and 5 worksheets that illicit short written responses from students. The worksheets help students to practice the following:
~ Identify geometric traits.
~ Compare polygons and write about them.
~ Contrast polygons and write about them.
~ Measure with (and effectively use ) a ruler.
~ Create polygons by using a measurement tool.
