This is a front and back lesson sheet designed to help students learn or review how to identify and describe the following: cube, sphere, prism, pyramid, cone, and cylinder. It is aligned to the Indiana Academic Standards 3.G.1 and intended for a Depth of Knowledge Level 2.
Teachers may find this useful to challenge high ability 2nd grade students, or may use it as a general teaching tool with 3rd grade students. 4th and 5th grade teachers may find it a useful, quick review for students struggling to recall earlier geometry lessons from this standard.
The lesson is suitable for whole group or small group instruction, but works best in small group instruction where manipulatives are within easy reach. It may also be a helpful homework assignment because it is designed to be quick but intellectually engaging.
Additional branching activities may include: social studies - use the picture to start discussions of how different cultures around the world use geometry differently to build housing and why their environments play a role in their decisions.
