There are 3 polynomials activities included in this bundle for practicing adding, subtracting and multiplying polynomials. You can read the details of each by clicking their links below.
Brief descriptions of the activities included in this bundle:
1: Polynomials Pennant
This collaborative activity can be tailored to fit the needs of your students. There are 30 pennants in the entire activity. The first 20 can be used alone for a younger group of Algebra students. This first activity - multiplying and adding polynomials - is presented in terms of area and perimeter. Space is given on these pennants for students to set up the area method for multiplying the two given polynomial side lengths.
2: Multiplying Polynomials Task Cards
Given polynomial side lengths, students find areas and perimeters of rectangles while practicing polynomial multiplication and addition. Students are also asked to evaluate their expressions given a value of x. This polynomial activity links what students already know about finding areas to working with polynomials and is great for students who need visuals.
3: Adding Polynomials Blueprint Activity
Here is a new take on combining like terms. Every student (or pair of students) gets a blueprint and a set of task cards. The blueprint marks the lengths of walls with polynomials, such as "x + 4" or "2x - 1". Each of the 16 cards asks the students to "find the length of the kitchen's north wall" or "find the perimeter of the dining room", leading students to combine the like terms they see. My students really enjoyed this activity when I taught Algebra 1. Being able to combine like terms is so important and this activity makes it fun!
