These pop art animals have a real wow factor! I love Cassie Stephens’ chalk tigers inspired by pop artist Dean Russo, and I wanted to do a version with African animals and bleeding tissue paper.
The key to these pop art posters is how I teach the students to draw the animals so everyone is successful. The kids enjoy having a choice of animals to draw—the lion, elephant, leopard, or giraffe--as well as having the opportunity to work with a mix of media, from ink to fluorescent oil pastels to bleeding tissue paper. I use bingo daubers for the ink step. Also included is an option for a smaller size with black Sharpie brush pens or Faber-Castell PITT pens and watercolors (pan or liquid), so you can do what works best for you.
Time Required: 90 minutes.
