Looking for a fun, hands-on literacy center idea? These Short Vowel CVC Word cards are designed to be used with popper fidget toys that have three bubbles. Students will pick a card, choose a picture, and pop the three bubbles on the fidget toy as they say the sounds in the word.

There are 20 cards included and there are four cards per short vowel sound. Some of the pictures repeat on multiple cards, but no two cards are identical.

There are two versions of the cards. One version has words for increased student support and the other version just has pictures. Pick the version that best suits your students’ needs.

How to Prepare: Print the cards on cardstock. Cut in half to create two cards per page. Laminate for durability.

How to Use: Students will point to a picture, “pop” the sounds, and cross off the picture with a dry-erase marker. For example, for the word “map”, they would say “m/a/p” while popping a bubble for each sound.
