Do your students ever struggle with reading sight words? This is a great way for students to practice sight words and sight word phrases. It gives students an opportunity to practice words on their reading level. There are 12 separate lists and phrases to practice. This is something that I send home for homework at the beginning of the school year. I test each student the first week that this is sent home. It allows me to see how far they can read the words easily and comfortably. When they master a word or phrase I highlight that word/phrase. Then I am able to see what they have mastered and what needs a little extra practice. I do not move students to a new list until they have mastered the list they are on. Personally, I do not like them to study more than one word list/phrase at a time. If students can read all the words/phrases I ask parents to practice spelling the sight words.
This packet includes:
*Popcorn booklet (sight words and phrases included)
*Directions on how I use this in my classroom
*A letter to parents and a Tips and Tricks page to give parents ideas on how to help practice at home (without the dreaded writing words umpteen times)
*Sight Word Mastery Page- allows students to color in popcorn kernels as they master each list
*12 checklists for teacher to use to check off when students master words
