Popcorn Pops!
Before and After

This is a game and 4 activities working with what number comes before a number, after a number, or before and after a number.

Game
The game can either be played determining what number comes before another number, or what number comes after another number. The children will each have a game board. They will take turns drawing a card and covering the number that comes before the number drawn. Cover the number with a white unifix cube or stacker to represent popcorn. If the number has already been covered they do nothing. If they draw an empty popcorn box, they have to take one marker off their board. If they draw a full box of popcorn, they take 2 more turns. The child that covers all of their numbers first wins.

Activities

What Pops Before?
The children will roll a number cube, 2 dot dice, or spin a 1 - 6 or 1 – 9 spinner based on their needs. They will write that number on the piece of popcorn the kid is holding. They will then write the number that comes before on the other piece of popcorn. There is a number border around this recording sheet that the child can use for a reference if needed.

What Pops After?
This is played the same way but the children are recording the number that comes before the number rolled or spun.

What Comes After?
The children will roll a number cube, 2 dot dice, or spin a 1 - 6 or 1 – 9 spinner based on their needs. They will write that number on the piece of popcorn the kid is holding. They will then write the next 3 numbers that come after the number rolled or spun.

Game
Each child needs a game board and 10 markers. Copy the number cards 3 times. If you are playing the game finding the number that comes before, don’t use the 0 card. If you are playing the game finding the number that comes after, don’t use the 10 card.
