During my lessons about Thanksgiving, we discuss how there was corn at the first Thanksgiving. I explain that some people say there was popcorn too, but that his just a myth. At some point I read The Popcorn Book by Tomie dePaola. I also purchase a large tub of the flavored popcorn (butter, cheddar, and caramel). In math centers, I give each person a little handful of all three kinds. We estimate how many pieces of popcorn there are and then count the actual number. I have them sort their popcorn by flavor and then put them in order from the smallest group to the largest group. They draw a representation of their groups on the back of the worksheet. Finally, they taste their popcorn and we graph who liked which kind. The worksheet should be copied back to front.
