Popsicles Emergent Reader (Summer) (Ten Frames and Number Words 0-20 and Color Words) - (Reading and math connection)
This emergent reader, “Popsicles” is connected to several CCGPS listed below. This pack includes two “Popsicles” books. The books are designed so that you can copy the book, cut it in half, staple, and then it is ready for use.
The first "Popsicles" book has 22 pages including a title page “Popsicles,” and then each of the remaining 21 pages contains black and white pictures at the top of each page and a sentence under the picture. Each sentence says “I ate (number words zero-twenty) popsicles.”
The PREVIEW shows every page included.
For the second 7 page book, the same title page “Popsicles” from the first version above can be used, and then each of the remaining 7 pages includes a girl eating a popsicle with a speech bubble asking, “Who ate the (red, yellow, purple, orange, green, blue, and then all) popsicles?” Then the answer is given using (I, he, she, they, we, you, and everyone) ate the (color) popsicles. Students can identify the color words and color the popsicles the correct colors.
Pages are not numbered so that the teacher has flexibility to either staple the pages in number order 0-20 or to mix them up to check to see if students correctly recognize the number words.
Look at the preview to see every page included.
Students can benefit from this reader by tracking print, identifying spaces between words, identifying particular letters of the alphabet, recognizing sounds (beginning, middle, and ending) in each word, and reading sight words and grade level text. For extension activities, students could add another sentence to each page to add details. The black and white pictures allow students the opportunity to color the pictures. This reader is great for guided reading groups, homework, or literacy center activities. It also includes math standards with a ten frame on each page with a matching number of graphics.
