This activity includes the lyric icons for 4 popular children's songs: "3 Little Kittens," "Animal Fair," "Baby Shark," and "Hungry Caterpillar" as well as pictures from the songs that you can cut out and use to "act out" the story (either with velcro and a feltboard or just on a table).
With this activity you can:
- Sing the song and have the child follow along the lyric icons
- Have the child sing the song with you while following the lyrics
- Have the child fill in a rhyming or repetitive word at the end of a stanza
- Have the child use the cut out characters/items to sequence the song, reenact the song, or use pretend play during the song
This is a set of children's songs that teach literacy skills, phonological awareness such as rhyming, vocal intonation, inferencing, scripted language, pretend play, sequencing, and vocabulary. The song lyrics are catered to the vocabulary of a 2-5 year old (often times, children's songs have vocabulary that is meaningless to children "down by the BAY" or "sat on her TUFFET"). This was effective in pre-teaching a Pre-K client on the spectrum who would soon be entering Kindergarten. The kiddo was overwhelmed by upbeat songs which would soon become common at school, so we used these songs first with soft speaking voices, then adding rhythm, then eventually adding intonation and sing-songy voices.
