C. Back East- Factory work- poor unskilled labor
D. Major issues
a. Free Coinage Bi-metal system
b. Nationalize Railroad- government runs
c. National graduated income tax
d. Depict popular election of US senators
e. 8 hr. work day
f. Farmers want money to be worthless (inflation). If the price of what they wanted goes up, they will still be paying the same amount of money on their land – ne ed to pay debts

II. Agrarian Revolution
A. Farm Problems
1. US farmers faced the following problems after the Civil War
a. New Farm Machinery caused overproduction of crops
b. Overproduction lowered prices
c. Competition from British & Western European Farmers lowered prices further on the world & domestic markets
d. High Railroad rates to transport farm products
e. Tariffs on Foreign machinery
f. Farmers were forced to increase mortgages to buy new machinery
g. Most mortgages had high interest rates
2. Farmers formed a union for mutual protection
a. A Farm Union was called “The Grange”
3. The Role of “the Grange”
a. Tried to make the farmer more competitive- sold foreign produce to costumers
b. By eliminating middlemen prices became more competitive
c. Bought farm machinery in large quantities at whole sale prices to make more affordable
