I put together an extensive step by step for making a self portrait. I found this extremely helpful as an aid. The majority of students still need instructor examples and one on one help. This se.ts the pace of the assignment so that students are not jumping ahead. I found it easier to explain dividing the face into halves and quarters instead of the 1/3 options that some use. I have the students adjust features based on guidelines. This should be stapled together as a packet for students to follow. I will draw a variety of face shapes and have the students trace the faces. Most of the middle school kids can not seem to get the basic face shape down. If they can get the head shape, the rest is achievable. I see lots of confidence building in the lesson. It is one of the more challenging assignments.
