Have you noticed how Portugal looks like a face looking away from Europe, and toward Africa and other lands? Interesting. While most students do not study Portuguese exploration that much at this grade level, we went over the basics. Your students can as well. This is the lower level package relating to Portuguese exploration. It was designed to accompany the older package, should you want to have younger students feel included (such as in home schooling). included are 4 folders: Math, Reading, Writing, and History. Math includes a set of 15 word problems related to Portugal and Portuguese exploration. They mostly require regrouping. Most of these problems also provide real statistics about Portugal or Early Portuguese exploration, such as dates of exploration, or comparing coastlines of Portugal and Brazil. There are 4 maps included which help students practice basic geography skills (such as cardinal points and using basic maps). They are maps of Portuguese exploration routes, and different countries or continents, such as Portugal, South America, and South Africa. We also included a test to follow a unit on the Portuguese explorers, so that you can gauge how much your students learned, and if they need more instruction. The reading folder basically facilitates research skills, including a book report form, a website report form, a blank KWL chart, an example KWL chart, and a list of suggested guiding questions. The writing folder includes an activity teaching how to add conjunctions to sentences. Another activity provides students with practice in use of subjects and predicates as they complete sentences related to Portuguese exploration. In all, there are 47 pages included. Answer Keys are included where they are applicable.
