Fun, creative writing project to learn the physics of graphing motion and mathematical concepts with a story most children already know.
This exercise is to help students read and interpret position/time graphs and translate it into English by writing the story the graph tells. The students synthesize the stories told by the graphs including the physics of velocity, position, time interval, distance, and average velocity. This is a very good exercise to reinforce the concept of slope on position/time graphs as representing velocity.
This packet includes two individual races.
Race #1 is for 9th grade physical science and 12th grade on level physics
Race #2 is for more advanced students in Honors and Gifted Physics classes.
Also included are two blank rubrics for students and two key rubrics for teacher grading.
I have not assigned point values so the teacher may assign values as fit the individual class.
