Positive reinforcement is a highly effective way to shape children's challenging problem behaviors into more appropriate behaviors.
This resource packet features a token earning board, with several visuals of different "reinforcers" for children to select from. The token board also comes with two types of tokens, check marks and smiley faces.
Also included are break cards, to help teach children how to appropriately request a break when becoming overwhelmed or upset. I usually introduce this concept by giving the child plenty of break cards to use throughout the day or you can use this system during a particularly challenging activity or lesson. Once the child has gained an understanding of how to use the break card to request a break, start to fade the number of breaks allowed each day.
Additional visuals of reinforcing items and activities, as well as a visual to help children recognize when their behavior is "expected" or "unexpected".
