Individual Product Descriptions:
1) Editable Class Expectations Poster and Contract.
Clear expectations understood by and agreed to by all can be a powerful classroom management tool. With this collection, you'll get a solid start off to your year and receive a class expectations poster for your classroom and an agreement for students and guardians to sign. The agreement is totally editable, as are some posters. You'll have many backgrounds to choose from to fit your classroom decor and needs
My students are asked to keep it in their notebook - which corresponds to CCAS Literacy Speaking and Listening Standard 2a: Come to class prepared. This contract is part of their first notebook check, and can be referred to easily throughout the year.
2) 30 Procedures and Routines for Middle & High School.
Uploaded as a Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and PDF document so you can make revisions that fit your students' needs or use as presentation.
These are procedures and routines to keep your class running smoothly. The procedures are listed and then the steps are explained. Teach your students what they need to do to be successful - from how to set up their work space, to what to do if they're absent, to how to create a group area, plus enough class jobs (if you choose) for everyone.
Though these routines will pertain to most classes, you will want to individualize and modify this list to complement your subject area and your students’ needs – change it to work best for your class. The idea is to, as soon as possible, teach the procedures that are integral to running daily class routines smoothly. Then teach other procedures as they logically come up in lessons. Don’t forget to review them, as needed, with your students and be sure to occasionally thank your students for following your procedures.
3) Teach & Sustain a Positive Classroom Culture.
A fun, engaging cross curricular mini-unit & teachers’ guide designed to empower you to cultivate and sustain a positive classroom culture as a middle and high school teacher. Minimize talking, interrupting, blurting out, side conversations, attention-seeking behaviors, dominant-submissive group discussions through lessons in self-awareness and self-discipline.
Set the expectation exactly where you want it and how you want it. Demonstrate active listening, empathy, respect, and concern for all your students, as the class leader and role model. All aspects of your class, including discipline, become for the best interests of all, instead of merely following rules for the teacher. In over fifteen years of teaching, this has been one of my most effective behavior management strategy. It involves creating a culture where kids are accountable, not only to the teacher, but to one another as well.
I teach this as my first unit and it sets the groundwork for a caring, respectful environment. It's also rather fun as students practice discussion skills, role play, etc. This, of course, can be taught whenever you decide - as it draws from CCSS Literacy Speaking and Listening standards.
Includes 67+ pages including a teacher's guide, survey, dramatization, graphic organizer, classroom discussion self-assessment, 7-question multiple choice quiz, learning target self-assessment, brain research methods of sustaining the positive culture.
4. Positive Recognition Cards for Middle & High School.
Catch and recognize the positive classroom behaviors and practices you want to see - in all subject areas. If you see a student following a specific procedure and want to provide positive feedback, grab a pre-made and copied card and discretely drop it off at the student's desk. Quick, easy, and effective.
Using these cards is simple – especially considering the payoff. After you’ve taught the expectations for speaking and listening, keep these cards handy, so you can hand them out for genuine specific praise when the time is right. Each design includes a blank so that you can add your own categories.
5) Goal Setting System with Workbook.
Includes a 2017 mini-calendar with monthly goal-setting sheets. This is a research-based, detailed, fun, and motivational goal-setting system which incorporates analysis, evaluation, discussions, group support, steps toward meeting goals, and monitoring progress. It can be used on a long-term basis, but the duration is totally up to you. Regularly or randomly rewarding your students in your own classroom helps create an inspiring classroom environment. You can also use these for more school-wide awards programs as well. I have found it particularly beneficial and motivating to students to take five minutes every couple of weeks to announce these. That five-minute chunk is a huge investment in students individually, as well as in creating a positive and nurturing class culture. Students see exactly what their accomplishment is written on the certificate for genuine, specific praise. I usually then hang them on the wall for display, until the next set is given. Regardless of your students' ages, being recognized by you is a powerful motivator and usually is quite meaningful to your students and their families. Purchase once, re-use for years!
