I have this sign on the front of my desk: If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.

This is such an important message to give to our students. Some things we can change other things we cannot, but by changing our outlook of them, sometimes it helps to make it tolerable.

Use this visual as a springboard for a small group or class discussion on things students like and do not like and things students can change and not change. Brainstorm strategies to use to cope with the things that can't be changed.
