Add a card game to any math lesson and it quickly becomes more fun! This collection of card games was designed to provide an opportunity for students to gain confidence in working with integers, opposites, absolute value and operations using positive and negative numbers.
The product includes a set of positive and negative number cards, suggestions for lessons and student-friendly directions. Students can play familiar games like Go Fish, War, Concentration and other card games to practice and increase their skill in working with integers.
The card games can be used by students in pairs, in a center, or in a small group setting. Alternatively, teachers can print multiple sets of cards and use them in a whole group setting—or use the cards in other games and activities they have designed.
The card sets and activities can be adjusted by teachers to match group size, playing space size or the skill level of the players. “Extra” cards are included to add complexity to some of the card games. The number cards (and the whole packet!) were designed to use black ink only, allowing you to save your colored ink for other activities and creations. The cards should be run off on cardstock for durability.
This is a fun and engaging way for students to practice several skills related to integers, including comparing integers, determining absolute value, matching integers and their opposites, as well as adding, subtracting and multiplying positive and negative integers.
