Product Description
Differentiating between contractions and possessives can be difficult, especially for ELLs, and definitely when the contraction is “ ‘s ” for is or has. This is a fun center activity that allows students to sort words into their correct categories: possessive or contraction. To prepare the center, first print out and laminate the word shirts. Then place a basket, bag, or other container with all the shirts in the center along with two other “laundry baskets”. Label the extra baskets contraction and possessive (labels are provided for you to print and glue). Students can then sort the cards into the appropriate baskets. Tip: I print each set of shirts on a different color cardstock, this allows students to share the same sorting baskets (less money) and makes it easy for me to separate the shirts back into individual sets. There is also a recording sheet and answer key provided for your use.
