In most cases making a list or chart is the easiest way to organize possible solutions.
This file contains a teacher information page (lesson plan/guide and answer key), 2 whole class activities, an independent activity and an assessment or homework activity.*
The independent activity is entitled “Build Your Ride”, students choose one of 6 types of cars. They pick various features they would like their car to have. Students then create a chart of the features and a tree diagram of the items they choose. Students list the total number of possible outcomes based on the features they choose for their car.
All of the activities within this file show students the real world significance of possible outcomes. Students really love doing the independent activity. They enjoy talking about the cool cars and what type of car they want. This is a neat activity.
