This is a fun way to get students thinking about possible outcomes/combinations.
An ice cream "menu" is provided. Students will come up with their own flavors and toppings, and then use multiplication or a tree diagram to explore all of the possible ice cream combinations that could be created. An answer key is provided for easy grading, along with an example of a tree diagram. We've also include a sheet for students who need to physically manipulate the different options - they can simply color and cut them out to use in this way.
Your students can create their own giant tree diagram using chart paper or on a white board, or you can do this part as a whole class, or you can model how to use multiplication to find out how many possible outcomes exist.
