This superbly designed Powerpoint centers on the art style known as Post-Impressionism. The lesson starts with a Do Now for students to begin thinking about what they see, practicing the description portion of art criticism.
Students are introduced to the major characteristics of Post-Impressionism as well as three major artists including Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cezanne, and Paul Gaugin. Students are able to view and discuss a number of Post-Impressionist paintings, understanding the styles of each artist and Post-Impressionism as a whole. At the end of the presentation, there is an informal quiz to check for student understanding. They may answer independently or work as a group. Lastly, students are asked to reflect on their lesson, making a judgment on the style as a whole. More importantly they are asked to back up their opinion with valid reasons.
