Use this sheet, which includes generic Text Dependent Questioning Stems to keep your students on track when they are thinking and doing Post-It work as they read. When you are conferencing, refer back to the Post-It thinking they have been doing to begin discussion and focus teaching points.
Have students keep a copy of the Post-It Work for Students sheet in their notebooks to refer to. Make multiple copies of the Sticky Note Tracker to have a place for Post-Its once reading is complete. Usually, I have my students remove all of their Post-Its out of a book once they are done reading, place them on a Sticky Note Tracker and add the Tracker to their Reader's Notebooks. Other times, I will have them turn one of their Tracker Sheets in to monitor the work they are doing as they read.
