In this 4 page packet you have everything needed to briefly introduce your students to the rise of Totalitarian leaders after WWI before you dig deeper.I use this lesson in both my U.S. and World History classes. Your students will:
1) Read a short 1 page introduction that explains what a Totalitarian state is and how it runs. (Included)
2) Use the information in the reading to fill in 1 section of their graphic organizer. (Included)
3) Use the class textbook or internet ( as a web quest), to fill in the sections of the chart about Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, comparing how each leader fits the description of a totalitarian state. (Info is: How did they control their citizenry? How did they deal with their opposition? Who did they blame for their countries problems? Etc...)
4) Complete a homework/extension activity that asks students to do some quick research on Totalitarianism today making connections from events of the past to events of today. (Worksheet/directions included)
