Cut the rectangles. Glue them on small post-its.
You can have your students do it themselves or ask for intermediate student helpers to do it.
When a student completes a sentence in his/her journal, have him/her put a post-it in the margin next to it. The student has to correct his/her sentences himself/herself before the teacher takes a look at it.

- Complement. WHERE, WHEN, WITH WHO, etc..
This technique helps the visual learners and especially the students who need more structure than others.
As the texts begin to be longer, you can have the student use a post-it for every 3 to 5 sentences.
