The goal of this resource is for students to compare and contrast two topics or ideas in a new and engaging way. Students split into two groups, reading two different passages (not included) to find important information. Students pair up with someone who read the opposite passage to compare and contrast the two topics. Finally, they collaborate on activities using their shared information.
This resource includes: full editable powerpoint with step-by step instructions and teacher notes, two handouts for how to extend the lesson beyond the reading and ideas for how to use the lesson in various contents.
This can be used in any content and is fully adaptable to your needs. This activity can be used to introduce information, reinforce information or extend information by comparing a standards-based topic to a similar topic beyond your standards. This activity requires individual assessment and collaboration. This is a great way to make your basic compare and contrast more engaging and meaningful!
This resource can be differentiated up or down to fit the needs of elementary through high school students. The differentiation will be based on the text, the amount information you ask them to gather and what you ask students to do after they read. I have provided two options I have used in this resource.
*Pairs well with my Hinduism & Buddhism Passages. Check out my store soon for more social studies texts to pair with this activity!
